There are many ways of connecting GA4 to your website. If you have an existing store and you work with marketing / CRO agencies, you likely have more than one implementation and some level of data duplication.
The setup part keeps evolving. But, as of 2025, the Youtube and Google App is the most accepted way of setting up GA4 tracking for your shopify store.

Note – the ‘Google Channel app’ is now ‘Google And Youtube App’ but the GA4 integration works in the same way.
Also, if you are setting up GA4 for the first time, you can ignore the part about removing existing implementation. However, if you already have a setup, don’t disconnect your existing setup without checking with other stakeholders and with the developers who have set it up.
if your store has one or more existing setup (and the likelihood of this increases as the time since launch goes up) – this can cause disruption in your reports and conversion tracking if you are not very, very careful.
